When refugee or migrant families come to this country they’re given a welcome pack. It contains a lot of important information for parents, but nothing for their kids. Behind the News, in conjunction with non-partisan not-for-profit group Welcome to Australia, want to change that by creating a book full of colourful and heartfelt welcome messages, pictures and tips written by the kids of Australia. That book will then be given to every refugee or migrant family that arrives in the country as part of their welcome pack, giving young arrivals a very personal and friendly welcome to their new home country.
Our class decided to get behind the campaign. We shared experiences of entering a new school and the challenges that are faced, then what a 11-12 year old person might feel when they arrive in a new country.
Here are a few of our entries for the competition. You can read more about it at the BTN website.
