We went back to basics today. Over the last two weeks, I have been reading picture books to the class each day. Reading aloud to the class has aligned with our development of oral language focus for the remainder of the term. Students have been exploring alliteration, tone, speed, pause, expression and noticing punctuation when reading aloud.
In groups of three to four, each student has been reading a picture book aloud with these devices in mind, and are provided feedback in a reflection by their peers to help further develop their oral language. Pairs of students will eventually be reading to a small group of year 1s in week 10 to put their developed techniques in to practice.
Here are some snaps from today’s reading corner sessions.
